The question most often asked of a Stayton Moose is “Do you have a lodge yet?” Well, we’re working on it. Our new facility is much, much better then the last, but it is still just a place to meet and to hold activities. It is not a place that we can put all of our stuff in or drop by to see our friends except at planned events. Many members have been volunteering to work food booths and raise money any way we can within the guidelines of Moose International. Our success has been good. We have raised some money and there are other ways to fund a lodge which are also being pursued. We will be able to lease or buy a facility eventually but that’s only part of it. In order to support a full-time lodge we need more members. It would be great if we got funded by a grant or a huge donation and we acquired a building. But then what? We will have lease payments, or mortgage payments, insurance, utilities and the like. This takes membership; members to drink a beer, or play the lottery, or bingo, or have dinner at the lodge. This is how we will support ourselves on a continuing basis and we need more members to do that.
It is not difficult to sign up new members if you just try. Ask folks; keep it in your mind. Each and every one of us could sign a new member every week if he just tried. We are required to carry at least one application with us at all times. Show it, talk about it and fill it out for the prospect. It really doesn’t cost much. Everyone does not have to give twenty hours a week of their time like some of us do; it just takes a little time. Support those who are working so very hard to raise funds and membership by signing up new members. Please do not ever criticize your lodge for not having a permanent facility yet unless you are one of those who is working hard to make a go of it.
I am very proud of our lodge and our members. I didn’t know that there were so many wonderful people in Stayton and the surrounding areas. Knowing you all is what makes me work so hard to make this lodge a success. You can do your part so easily by simply signing up new members. The covered Bridge Festival is giving us a free booth because we are helping with the setup and dismantling. For once we are not cooking or selling anything. We are setting up an information booth in an effort to sign new members. Leon Creswell is our Membership Committee Chairman and he is in charge of the booth. We need more volunteers so if you can volunteer, call Leon at 503-990-9238 or call me at 503-859-2974. Check the calendar to see when it happens. If you can’t volunteer, then bring a prospective member down to meet Leon and to see what we are all about.
If you have not received you renewal notice and it is due (you joined for one year) send a $30.00 check or money order with your member number if you know it along with your lodge name and number written on it.

Park Dedication

As reported by the Stayton Mail, officers and their families of your lodge cooked and served at the dedication of Stayton’s newest park Santiam Park. About 200 folks attended the August 16th event and ate hotdogs and hamburgers prepared by the Moose. The Fire Department and Police Department as well as Stayton Dignitaries attended. The most fun was giving out the free Dilly bars, donated by Dairy Queen, to the children.

Open House Sept. 23

All Moose members and their families are invited to an Open House at out new facility on September 23 beginning at 2:00 PM. Complimentary food and beverages, music and dancing, and family activities are planned. This event is open to anyone interested in learning about the Moose and to all of the employees of SCTC and their families. We encourage every member to attend and bring a friend who may be interested in joining.

Through the generosity of Stayton Cooperative Telephone Company and CEO Don Lawrence our next and all future meetings will be held at our new “lodge” at 41818 Kingston-Jordon Drive (see calendar of events). It’s easy to find, just go South on 1st Ave., turn left on Kingston-Jordon Drive and it’s less than a quarter mile on the right.
Please try to attend this first meeting at the new place, especially if you have had difficulty attending 1st Thursdays in the past because we will be deciding on a new meeting night. In the past we were restricted to Thursdays but not anymore, we can meet on whatever night we choose.

(image placeholder)The building is owned by Stayton Cooperative Telephone Company and is being leased to the Moose as a community service, according to Moose spokesperson Suzi Kilby. (image placeholder)The community is invited to the open house where they can learn all about Moose membership and enjoy another free picnic. Volunteer chefs will fire up the famous Moose barbecue for a free picnic lunch of hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches and beverages. There will be gifts for children, a drawing for door prizes, music and games.(image placeholder)The Stayton Moose Lodge was founded in April of 2005 and since then the Moose have been busy with both local and international projects. (image placeholder)Locally they were co-sponsors and coordinators of the 4th of July parade and worked as volunteers at the Marion County Fair and the Covered Bridge Festival. The famous Moose barbecue also has seen service, providing free picnic fare, at local events including the Santiam Park dedication. Moose members enjoy all aspects of community picnic fun and enjoy providing music and other entertainment at the events. The Moose also fired up the grill at SummerFest with all of the proceeds from their full rib, burger or sausage dinners going to the Stayton Library Foundation. Proceeds from the barbecue at the Aumsville Corn Festival also will be donated to a charity selected at an upcoming Moose Lodge meeting.(image placeholder)Internationally the fraternity supports Mooseheart Child City and School, a 30-home residential childcare facility in Chicago for children and teens in need and Moosehaven, a full community retirement home in Orange Park, Florida for dependent retired members of Moose lodges.(image placeholder)The Stayton Lodge is anxious to take on two more major causes here in the valley, but require more members to make that desire a reality. The Santiam Marketplace Trade Fair went very well. Charlie, Verginia, Suzi and I, spent the day working the booth. I mostly just stood around. They sold some coupon books and gave out a lot of aplications. The kids loved the fishing pond. Some of you stopped by to say hi.

We have lost two of our members this past July. Bother Lary Reedy passed away July 21. Our condolences to his wife Kay and his family. Brother Dale Magee passed away July 29.
